The excursions in the « Jardines del Rey »
In Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, there is a wide variety of excursions for all tastes. They are islands, so you can imagine that there are several boat trips and catamarans excursion available. An opportunity to discover the beauty of the islands of the King's gardens.
All tours are offered by the Cuban companies: Cubanacan, Gaviota Tours Havanatur and Cubatur. Foreign tour operators (Canadian, European, etc..) offer substantially the same tours. Transat Holidays, Nolitours, Tours Mont-Royal and Air Canada Vacations has exclusive contracts with Cubanacan. Caribe Sol and Hola Sun offer Havanatur excursions.
While suggesting, you are not required to purchase your excursion from the tour operator who sold you your travel package. The Tour Operator representatives who sell these excursions receive a commission. If you do not like the service of the representative, you are free to buy from another tour operator or a Cuban tour operator. It is advisable to book your trip early, as some are very popular and places are limited.
To choose your tour, you have two choices: attend the meeting, which is usually the day after your arrival at the hotel from your tour operator or flipping through the books of excursions that are generally located near the reception. The excursion description is in English, French and sometimes German and Italian. For excursions outside of Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo, you must bring your passport and tourist card.
You can pay either in cash (CUC) or by credit card. Note that there is no ATM in Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo and the price never includes gratuity for guide and driver. Be generous!
Credit cards like VISA and MASTERCARD are accepted in Cuba, EXCEPT those issued by U.S. banks such as American Express, Citibank, Capital One and MBNA. Why credit cards are billed in U.S. dollars rather than in CUC? The CUC is not a currency that exists on the international market. The transaction is converted into USD, which has the same value.
